It is unfortunate for all Potterheads in the gaming community that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is closing down soon. Anyone who has been associated with the Harry Potter fandom knows that this game followed the footsteps of Pokemon GO, allowing players to interact with Harry Potter characters in an Augmented Reality (AR). The game has been able to garner a very loyal fanbase who will definitely miss playing this game once it’s gone.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be shutting down operations shortly

The real reason behind the cancellation is quite vague. The game had been receiving regular updates and events and even had a few final events to mark its conclusion. An official statement by Niantic was also released, which again failed to offer a proper reason for this game being laid to rest.

One reason that might come up is how the game could not retain its player base due to its extreme buggy nature. Furthermore, it might also be the case that the game could not garner a significant playerbase within its span of two years.

Another reason that is leading Wizards Unite to shut so suddenly could be related to Pikmin Bloom that was released last October. This game is another collaboration between Nintendo and Niantic. The shutting down of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite could have helped Niantic use more resources on Pikmin Bloom.

The in-app purchases in the game became void from December 6, 2021. Now, the game is shutting down in less than 24 hours.
