Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard might have had a rejuvenating lockdown because her post lockdown form was refreshing. From 332nd in the WTA ranking, she jumped to 141st. She turned her 2020 season around after the lockdown, so what did she do to achieve that?

In an earlier interview during the lockdown, Bouchard mentioned what she had learned during the lockdown.

Bouchard learned how to play piano and tried learning songs from iconic composers like the Beatles and John Lennon.

“I started learning how to play the piano, so that was that was fun. I was trying to learn like some songs like Beatles and John Lennon and things like that so yeah some oldies.”

Eugenie Bouchard renewed 2020 form post-mid-season break

Bouchard started off the 2020 season miserably. She couldn’t even get past the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open. And further poor performances caused her ranking to drop out of the 300. Then, when the season restarted, Bouchard changed her trajectory.

Bouchard reached the Prague Open quarterfinal and later at the Istanbul Open she was the runner-up. That jumped her close to the top 150 rankings. Bouchard was then given the wildcard for the French Open. She ended her season being 141st in the world.

A lot is still expected from Bouchard. She rose to prominence after a fantastic 2014, where she reached the Wimbledon final. Injury and form issues have forced a steep decline of Bouchard.

The mid-season break was tough on players because the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult to practice and they confined themselves in their homes for weeks.

After the pandemic break, tennis players were moving to different places in strict bubbles, which was tough. Bouchard also explained what kept her company in isolation at the 2020 French Open.

“I brought some books and I have subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu, so that’s mostly what’s getting me through,”

Bouchard will not qualify for the Australian Open 2021 using her rankings. But she could be given a wildcard by Tennis Australia to participate.
