This weekend, the Formula One paddock heads to Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Red Bull enter the weekend on a high note after their win in Monaco. Meanwhile, Mercedes come into the weekend on the back foot and as the hunters for the first time ever. Of course, there could be a few wary eyes on the skies, in case the weather decides to play spoilsport.

On the bright side, there does not seem to be any indication that it might rain in Baku. This will come as a relief for the drivers, especially considering the track’s nature. It is a mix of wide and open areas and tight and twisty sections, and if it does rain, an already difficult track to navigate could turn into a nightmare.

What to expect from the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix?

The long 2.2 km main straight is pretty much the capital of Slipstream City. Past races have shown that cars can go three abreast into Turn 1, making for exciting racing. However, from that point onwards, the track’s characteristics change completely; the track loops around and dives into a narrow, winding section where drivers have to be millimeter perfect.

The long straight and the tight, twisty sections also offer teams a massive dilemma in the setup department. This is because they are forced to choose between less drag or downforce.
