After 11 Races, Defending Champion Mercedes Makes Promising F1 Claim Amidst Red Bull-Ferrari Dominance

Mercedes failed to nail their car under the new regulations, suffering from major porpoising issues and lacking pace. It was evident that they had some catching up to do, to match rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. Slowly but surely they have done just that, making some major strides in development over the last few races.
Speaking about the upgrade package Mercedes debuted at Silverstone, Mercedes engineer Andrew Shovlin said, “It is encouraging that we now know how to develop the car within these regulations. The update package in Silverstone delivered exactly what we expected.”

Further talking about their performance in Austria, Shovlin said, “Qualifying in Austria was our most competitive qualifier to date.” However, he was also remorseful, “It’s a shame that both drivers shot off the track and hit the wall. The pace looked very encouraging, but the race speed was less.’

Their results out on track have improved; the team has secured 3 consecutive podiums in the last 3 races with Lewis Hamilton. However, they are still looking for that elusive first win in 2022 and inch closer to that goal.

Mercedes have seen the results pick up as the season has progressed. However, they have yet to register a win in 11 races. Their quest for a win looks to draw closer though, with them gaining major pace after their upgrades at the British GP.
Shovlin said, “I have always believed that we can win races this season. That is also the mentality of everyone in the team.” He also went on to add, “The development race is important this season, and we are already on the heels of Red Bull and Ferrari. This development shows that we can certainly win races in the future,”
