AlphaTauri Boss Disregards Possibility of Sebastian Vettel Winning Any Championship in F1 With Aston Martin

Sebastian Vettel was announced as the new Aston Martin driver for the 2021 season a little over two weeks ago. The German’s move came after long deliberation. But ultimately, he decided that it was the right move for him. Considering the progress the Silverstone-based team has made, many expect Vettel to be winning races and perhaps mounting a championship title challenge.
However, Franz Tost, the team principal of AlphaTauri, doesn’t think alike. He doesn’t believe Vettel will come anywhere close to winning a title with Aston Martin.
Speaking to AvD Motorsport Magazin, Tost said (quoted by SPORT1 and translated by Google), “I hope and wish him that he will be successful and that he will also be able to win races.

“(But) he will hardly be able to compete for the Championship with Aston Martin.”
Tost’s assumption seems to be a fair one. Aston Martin have made considerable progress. But they still have a long way to go in order to get anywhere close to the two Mercedes cars.
Even winning races shouldn’t come as a guarantee. After all, they have only been on the podium once this year. That is the same amount of times AlphaTauri has been on the podium and is still one lesser than McLaren and Ferrari.
However, unlike this season, Vettel will be seen making the top 6 more often than not. So bagging solid points every race will definitely be assured. But the German would obviously want to achieve better.
Franz Tost is happy to see Sebastian Vettel stay in F1
Tost said, “I think it’s good that Sebastian stays in Formula 1 and has the passion to continue driving in Formula 1.”
The Austrian team boss is happy that Vettel decided to follow his heart. Having won everything there is in F1 and with no shortage of finance, Vettel could’ve well decided to call it a day.

“He has enough money and four world titles. He doesn’t need it (to continue racing) anymore, “ said Tost.
With Vettel extending his F1 journey, we already have two confirmed world champions on the grid for next season (Fernando Alonso being the other). Lewis Hamilton will surely follow, while Raikkonen may extend his contract for a year as well.
