Twitter Reacts as Valtteri Bottas Takes Pole While Sebastian Vettel Suffers an Embarrassing Q2 Exit

During the qualifying session of the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, Alexander Albon created the first major upset. The Ferrari duo were clearly struggling as they languished down on the tail of the top 10. Sebastian Vettel was in immediate danger because he was in 10th place.

When Esteban Ocon failed to make it out of Q2, Vettel could breathe a small sigh of relief. However, the danger was not over, even though the Alpha Tauri duo and Romain Grosjean missed out. This was because there was still one driver who stood a chance of knocking Vettel off his perch, Alex Albon.

Suffice to say, Albon immediately rocketed into the top 10, placing Vettel’s Ferrari in the drop zone. The bad news was that Vettel could not improve his time, and it was curtains for him.

Sebastian Vettel is finding it difficult in his final season with Ferrari

This is already a rough weekend for Vettel, with him admitting that Scuderia Ferrari never offered him a contract. Many were aware that Vettel and Ferrari were parting ways, but thought that the split was mutual. So, everyone was surprised when the 4-time world champion confirmed that it wasn’t.

In his final season with Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel is hoping to go out on a high note. So, going out in Q2 is not exactly the best start to his Ferrari farewell.

Meanwhile, Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas stormed to pole position, breaking the lap record with a 1:02.939. All this was in spite of Bottas going off the circuit and doing some lawn-mowing and a pirouette. Hamilton lines up alongside him in snd, a mere 0.012 seconds behind, with Max Verstappen completing the top 3.

Behind them, there was sheer delight for McLaren as Lando Norris bagged P4, a career best qualifying position. The Briton managed to split the Red Bull duo, with Alex Albon lining up 5th.
