Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has uncovered that Ayrton Senna was frantic to change from Williams to Ferrari in 1994. And called ‘not being able to sign Senna’ his greatest regret.
Senna, a three-time World Champion, found no deficiency of achievement in Formula 1 with its iconic teams. Taking every one of the three of his titles with McLaren before moving to Williams in 1994.
It was in 1994 when Senna disastrously lost his life in an accident at Imola. And Montezemolo said that his greatest lament during his time at Ferrari was not carrying the Brazilian legend to Ferrari.

While talking to Sky Italia Luca was asked about his greatest regret. He said, “Not having signed Ayrton Senna.”
He added, “He came to my house in Bologna before the Imola accident and told me that he wanted to drive for us at all costs and to free himself from Williams.”
The Italian uncovered that Senna had addressed him presently before his passing about joining Ferrari, saying he was frantic to escape Williams.

Luca feels that Senna would have been the icing on the cake for Ferrari F1, he could have won it all with Ferrari. And says that the spot was later filled by Michael Schumacher.
“It would have been the icing on the cake, which was then Michael Schumacher who entered Ferrari history because nobody did what he did.”

Under Luca’s command Schumacher joined the team in 1996. Many people at Ferrari were skeptical of Montezemolo’s decision to sign Schumacher at the time. However, he would be going on to make history at Ferrari F1. And make himself a Formula 1 legend. Together, Micheal and the team embarked on a run of total dominance in Formula 1 from 2000-04.

Talking about Schumacher’s signing Luca said, “I was convinced of what I was doing because it was the right time.”
