Lewis Hamilton had a far from ideal race on Sunday at the Turkish Grand Prix. However, prior to that, he delivered strong performances in all practice sessions and qualifying on Saturday. In fact, the Briton even posted the fastest time in Q3 to take pole, only for a 10-place grid penalty to take it away.

However, Hamilton didn’t let that affect his mood on Sunday. Prior to the 58-lap race, he had a light-hearted chat with his race engineer, Peter Bonnington on the radio.

The Briton staved off teammate Valtteri Bottas and championship rival Max Verstappen in a frantic qualifying session on Saturday to finish with the fastest lap time. Prior to the start of the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, which he started from P11, a noise irritated the reigning world champion.

He addressed this issue to Bono, suggesting the Silver Arrows should have music in the car. He said, “We’re gonna have to get music in this car. I can’t listen to that terrible beep every single race.”

Bonnington then pitched him singing for the seven-time world champion. “I could sing to you if you want, but I don’t think that would be appreciated.”

Although Hamilton retorted by saying any sound would be better at that time, Bono doubted his singing abilities. To view their full exchange, you can check out this video posted by the official F1 YouTube channel and jump straight to 2:03.

While the solution may be unconventional, it certainly raised many eyebrows across the world. In fact, fans may hope Bono follows through and actually sings to Hamilton should such situations arise in the future!

Hamilton finished fifth in Istanbul

The Briton managed his race quite well, working his way up to third place after 50 laps. However, the Silver Arrows felt Hamilton was losing time to those behind him, who carried fresher intermediate tires. Hence, they called the reigning world champion into the pits despite his repeated requests to stay out.

This sent him down to P5, which is where he finished the race. With Verstappen finishing second, Hamilton relinquished the championship lead to the Dutchman, who now has a six point advantage. Can the Briton return to winning ways in the United States Grand Prix? Only time will tell.
