Things have crashed and burned for Lando Norris and McLaren as they have found themselves stuck in a rut. Both the driver and the team have never before been written off as quickly as they have been this season. The only reasons behind this are their failure to learn from their previous mistakes, as the issues from the past year occurred yet again, and their failure to adapt to the new regulations.

And amidst all of this, things aren’t expected to get better anytime soon. Lando Norris, who many believe is stuck with the team for another couple more years, hints at a possible better McLaren challenger from the fourth round, i.e., the Azerbaijan GP in Baku. However, it just might prove to be too late as the papaya team looks to claim their throne as “the best of the rest.”

Bringing in a little hope for the papaya army, Lando expressed his hopes of a better car as the first major upgrade package is due to arrive in Baku. He, as quoted by Motorsportweek, said, “I hope so. But at the same time, the season will start now, it’s as simple as that. As much as we want to believe that it’s starting later, it’s starting now. We’re behind where we should be and where we want to be.”

“What we’re going to be having in Baku should be what are starting the season with if we want to be a top team, it’s where we should’ve started the season with those kind of parts that are coming.”

The coming in of the parts reminds McLaren fans of similar incidents from last year when their team was left scratching their heads waiting for the braking parts to arrive at the start of the previous season.

No good times until 2025 for Lando Norris

The best news that has come out of the McLaren camp this year is the commencement date of the new wind tunnel. Set to start in June of this year, it will be crucial to the development of the cars ahead. 

But with the 2024 challenger already having gone through half of its development by that time, its best use will be for the 2025 car. This means a possibly less flawed car for Lando will only come in about two years.

A lot of hopes bank on this project, as Andrea Stella, as per Autosport, said, “We are hopeful to have the car in the wind tunnel, which should be at that stage the new car, in June. Hardware-wise it exists, the fan goes on. It’s really nice for my office because I can hear it.”
