Charles Leclerc certainly had an eventful race at the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend. The Ferrari driver started from the back of the grid after taking a new engine. However, he made his way up the field in the race and eventually finished the race in P5, showing some excellent overtaking.

But as he was making his way up the grid, it was not all smooth sailing for him. He even showcased some signs of frustration, as he could not get past cars as quickly as he wanted.

Yet there was a funny incident after this safety car when the Monegasque driver asked his race engineer if he was racing Williams driver Nicholas Latifi. “Is Latifi in on the same lap as us?” asked Leclerc. His race engineer replied, “No, he is not.”

It was a decent race for the Ferrari driver in terms of damage limitation. But it did not entirely satisfy the Monegasque as he wished for a bit more.

In the first half of the race, a lot of the times Leclerc was stuck in a DRS train with other cars. But he eventually passed them and made his way up the grid. Yet there were some mistakes from the Italian team as well as they did not execute a good pit stop to further enhance his race.

“The last part was nice, but obviously the very first part I was stuck in a DRS train and I could not do anything. Then in the middle part of the race, I found myself stuck behind Esteban who had much newer tires so out of Turn 10 where the tires are actually making the difference he had very good traction and that was enough for him to keep me behind all the time.

“Then the end was quite fun. I had to be a bit more aggressive to at least get some points and we finished fifth at the end, which is the best considering everything that happened today,” said Leclerc.

It would have been interesting to see where Leclerc would have finished if he had not had a slow pit stop. But it was nice to see him finish inside the top 5 and get some good points on the board for his title challenge.
