The pre-season testing sessions are over, and every driver, but Daniel Ricciardo, got a taste of what the upcoming Saturday Qualifying is going to look like. The Honey Badger failed to attend the Bahrain testing due to being tested positive for COVID. But The Australian is back for the race week and is eagerly looking forward to the first race.

He didn’t enjoy his time on the sidelines, seeing his teammate Lando Norris test out the MCL36 on the Bahrain track. But now the Honey Badger is hungry to get back on the grid as soon as possible. Ricciardo has shared, “I’m glad to be back, feeling better and ready for the Bahrain Grand Prix and season ahead. I was disappointed to not be in the car last week but despite being unwell, I’ve been able to keep in touch with the team, chat to Lando about the car and prepare as best as I can for the race weekend.”

“I want to maximise the free practice sessions to better understand the car and fine-tune everything ready for qualifying and lights out on Sunday. It’s hard to know where we’ll be on the grid but it’s going to be competitive and I’m hungry to get back in the car and go racing,” the Australian driver further expressed.

What’s ahead of Daniel Ricciardo?

The man from down under is already 32 and may not have many seasons ahead of him. Ricciardo joined the Woking base last year after his two season-long stints at Renault. Starting his tenure at McLaren, Daniel had a time adapting to the new car. And, as a result, his performance was poor in the first half of last season. However, Ricciardo started to get back into his form in the latter half of last season. He even got to perform his first infamous ‘shoey’ in the Orange outfit for his Monza win.

But due to an inconsistent season, Ricciardo finished eighth, behind his young teammate Norris, who finished in sixth place on the table last year. Now, a lot is weighing on the Aussie this year as the English constructors hold Norris as their No.1 driver. McLaren even signed a new multi-year contract with the young Englishman.
