Daniel Ricciardo reflects on one of his worst race weekends

The last few races of the 2018 season truly was a painful experience for the honey badger. All he wanted was to end his Red Bull career on a high but suffered multiple mechanical failures and reliability issues. One of the worst race weekends for Ricciardo was the US and Mexico Grands Prix.

At the 2018 US Grand Prix, Ricciardo qualified a commendable fifth in a Red Bull that was easily the third-best car on that day. Come race day, Ricciardo got off to a good start but barely managed to make it through a quarter of the race when he suffered a battery issue.

The Honey Badger was so mad, he punched a door in his Red Bull driver’s room. Little did the Aussie know, the nightmare was only beginning.

At the next race in Mexico, Ricciardo pipped his teammate Max Verstappen to clinch a phenomenal pole. Everyone expected Max to dominate the weekend but the honey badger produced a magical lap to deny him first place. On Sunday, Ricciardo got off to a poor start before retiring from the race due to his car shutting down.

Quite easily one of the worst back to back race weekends for any driver. Ricciardo took to social media to reflect on those two races, which he classifies as the “most despair”. Taking to Twitter, Ricciardo wrote:

“That Sunday was miserable and it was a second Sunday in a row that went away after I’d retired early in Austin”

“Austin, I was a dark after that one, I put my fist through my drivers’ room door and didn’t hang around after that race. “

“To bounce back with pole six days later with what I thought was initially a fractured bone in my right hand after Max had been dominating all weekend was so satisfying”
“But Sunday was pretty miserable”

“Those two weeks, Let’s say I didn’t enjoy my job!” concludes the Honey Badger.
