For a man like Lewis Hamilton who is used to winning so much, sitting in the 6th position in the drivers’ standings must be tough. Is it really the failure to compete for the top that is bothering him so much? Or is it something else he’s got on his mind?
Mercedes are on an 8-year constructors’ championship winning streak. Mercedes managed to clinch the title in 2021 even though Lewis Hamilton missed out narrowly on the drivers’ championship in a controversial fashion. The 7-time world champion opened up on their struggles this season after the second practice session at the Singapore GP.

Lewis Hamilton’s depressive take on the 2022 season
Hamilton spoke on the physically grueling second session of Free Practice. He talked about feeling dehydrated in the hot and humid weather of Singapore. He also talked about how the car has been struggling with porpoising issues. Lewis said that these issues became more prominent on the bumpy Marina Bay track.
Reflecting on how the car hasn’t progressed much, Lewis said that it was pretty much like every other weekend. He said that the car is as it is. Talking about the porpoising issues of the car, he said the car was “bouncing around like crazy.” The Brit said, “You’re bouncing so much that you just have a headache all the time. And this is a very bumpy track if you watch the on-boards and see my helmet… I don’t have any feelings anymore, I lost them like earlier on in the year.”

Reflecting on the two practice sessions, Lewis said that they started out well in the first session but weren’t as great in the second session. Talking about the heat, he said that while it was really hot out there and that he felt dehydrated, it was more of the car bouncing that bothered him more.
Looking at the possibilities on this track, Hamilton said that he expects the two Mercedes to finish in P5 and P4. He said that if they could get anything higher than that, it would be amazing.

With six more races to go, Hamilton is already out of the title race. His teammate George Russell is alive in the title race but a win looks improbable. Team Mercedes will have a mammoth task ahead of them if they are to bounce back in for a title hunt in 2023.
