Honda’s decision to leave Formula 1 has spurred a lot of controversy in F1’s direction toward technological advancements. In the wake of these developments, Lewis Hamilton recently stressed on the need for change. He opined that the sport needed to move towards making a positive impact on the planet as well.

During a press conference, Lewis was asked about his views on Honda’s announcement and how it could affect the sport. “I heard that they’re leaving, but I have not read about it. So I don’t know what the reasons are. It’s definitely sad to see them leaving.

As a sport, we have a long way to go and have a lot of work to do to move forward, towards more of a positive impact I think on the planet,” said the 6-time World Champion.

But I think what Mercedes have just come out with in terms of their long-term goals, the responsibility of the industry is to push technology. And this is at the forefront of the technology innovation. But I think changes need to come, that’s for sure moving forwards.

But I think Mercedes have shown that they are committed to being a part of the change and pushing the technology. I think that’s working,” Lewis said.

His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, was also posed the same question, and he mentioned that he had no idea about the reasons for Honda’s exit. However, he was also of the opinion that new engine manufacturers are always welcome as long as they make the sport interesting.
