Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc had yet another solid outing in Imola. However, despite outpacing his teammate Sebastian Vettel, and making it into Q3, the Monegasque felt he should have done better.

Leclerc once again showed the kind of pace in a lackluster Ferrari that would make heads turn. But despite bagging a P7 start for tomorrow’s race, Leclerc said, “P7, I’m not completely satisfied. I expected something more .”

Perhaps it is an indication of the high bar the Ferrari man has set for himself. And why not? After all, he has hauled the SF1000 to two podiums this season, along with a few other impressive outings.

The Monegasque added, “We were not as competitive as we wanted today. (But) tomorrow is the race, tomorrow is when we score points and I’ll try to maximize what we have.”

Charles Leclerc on what he rues ahead of race day

The Monegasque had to switch on to the soft compound tires midway into Q2, in order to ensure that he can get into Q3. However, that means Leclerc is at risk of dropping out of the points if he doesn’t get off to a good start tomorrow.

He said (translated by Google), “We start with the soft and that is not optimal. We have to make the soft ones work well in the first stint. We worked from Germany with this in mind.

If the race does pan out similar to the Eifel Grand Prix, Leclerc wouldn’t mind. After all, he did end that race in P7. However, seeing the high expectations Leclerc has, he would want to gun for at least a top 5 finish.

While Leclerc once again did rather well in The Prancing Horse, the same can’t be said for his teammate Vettel.

How did Sebastian Vettel fare during qualifying?

The 4-times world champion’s struggles continued at Imola. He couldn’t get his car out of Q2 and will start the race in P14, behind George Russell in the Williams. These are grim times indeed for Vettel.

Taking a glance back at how his season has panned out so far, one wouldn’t expect him to make it into the top 10.

What can the two Scuderia drivers achieve come race day? Will they both get into the points? Or will there be more heartbreak at their home, Grand Prix?
