F1 Announces Cancellation of the Monaco Grand Prix Altogether

F1 has confirmed that the Dutch and Spanish GP have been delayed. It has also announced that the Monaco GP has been canceled because of the worldwide spread of the coronavirus. The news follows the scratch-off of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix a week ago. Moreover, F1 has already announced the deferment of the Chinese, Bahrain and Vietnam Grands Prix.

The Dutch Grand Prix, making a comeback for the first time since 1985. It was set to be held at Zandvoort on May 1-3. The Spanish race following seven days after the Dutch GP. The Monaco Grand Prix was scheduled for May 21-24.

A joint statement from F1 and the FIA was released.

“In view of the continued global spread of Covid-19 and after ongoing discussions with Formula One and the three promoters, it has today been confirmed the Dutch Grand Prix 2020, Spanish Grand Prix 2020 and Monaco Grand Prix 2020 will be postponed.

“Due to the ongoing and fluid nature of the Covid-19 situation globally, the FIA, Formula One and the three promoters have taken these decisions in order to ensure the health and safety of the traveling staff, championship participants and fans, which remains our primary concern.

“The FIA and Formula One continue to work closely with affected promoters and local authorities to monitor the situation. Take the appropriate amount of time to study the viability of potential alternative dates for each Grand Prix later in the year, should the situation improve.

“The FIA and Formula One expect to begin the 2020 Championship season as soon as it is safe to do so after May. It will continue to regularly monitor the ongoing Covid-19 situation.”

Following the news that the Monaco Grand Prix had been deferred, the organizers of the race declared on Thursday evening. They said running the occasion was “no longer tenable” and that along these lines it was dropped. The event would not be rescheduled for the 2020 season.

A statement from the Automobile Club de Monaco was released to announce the cancellation of the event. It is the first time since 1954 that F1 will not race in Monaco.

The ACM clarified that the choice was a consequence of a mix of conditions. It includes the potential accessibility of the workforce required to develop the circuit, alongside the volunteers who work it on the race end of the week.

The earliest the season could now begin would be Baku in June. The primary race after the Monaco GP is the Baku GP on June 7. The Canadian GP is planned to occur seven days after Baku.

F1 has just scrapped the mid-year shutdown in August. It is done to place some races at that time to rescue the 2020 season
