F1 Leaders Red Bull a Magic Number Away From Unlocking Almighty Pace

The new 2022 cars are arguably the heaviest in terms of weight in the sport’s history. According to the new regulations, every team must have a car that weighs a minimum of 798 kgs. One of the heaviest teams on the current grid is the Red Bull F1 team.

According to F1briefings.com, the Austrian team is very much on the heavier side and is reported to have cars that are 8 kgs over the minimum weight limit. By being around 8kgs heavier, they are reported to be losing two and a half tenths of lap time.

The interesting point is that despite having a heavier car, Red Bull is arguably the fastest team on the grid this season. So if they manage to shed the weight, then they could become even faster.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner revealed they are trying everything to lose the added weight from the car.

After Imola, Horner mentioned that he hopes the upgrades can help them make the car lighter. The new upgrades will help Red Bull become lighter and faster on the slow corners.

“We’ve got some developments coming hopefully later in the summer that will help as well. We need to save a little bit of weight. You can always improve everywhere. We need to improve the slow [corner] stuff. We need to lose a couple of kilos off the car; tire deg is then the result of weight, so it’s all those little incremental gains that you’re always chasing,” said the Red Bull team boss.

The Austrian team is currently leading the driver’s and the constructor’s championships, with their drivers occupying the first two spots in the title race.

If Red Bull manages to get to the minimum weight limit or even close to it, they might run away with the title. So it is paramount for other teams to utilize their advantage over Red Bull as much as they can before the Austrian constructor implements their impending improvements.
