Former F1 Team Principal Explains Why He Wouldn’t Sign Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin

Former F1 Team Principal Eddie Jordan believes Racing Point should stick with its current driver lineup next year. Jordan revealed that he wouldn’t sign Sebastian Vettel and backed the team’s current lineup of Stroll and Perez.
Eddie also explained why Perez is a valuable asset to Racing Point, before its transformation to Aston Martin.
It’s no secret that Vettel has an eye on Aston Martin for 2021. With their current form, it’s easy to see why the 4-time World Champion is drawn towards the British team.

Racing Point hasn’t acknowledged any rumors linking the German driver to the team but crucially hasn’t rejected the same.
Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin, not a given: Jordan
If the team were to sign Sebastian Vettel, either Perez or Stroll would have to make way to the German driver. A choice that Perez recently described as “obvious”.
Being the boss’s son, one wouldn’t expect Stroll to be going anywhere, anytime soon. Sadly, Checo would be leaving despite everything he’s done for the team.

However, Jordan is of the opinion that Racing Point needs to retain its current driver lineup. Speaking to the F1 Nation podcast, Jordan said:
“I wouldn’t say it’s a given that Vettel will definitely drive for Racing Point or Aston Martin. I’m not sure how those two teams are going to converge and marry up together, where Toto lies in all of this.
“It’s difficult at his [Vettel’s] age, would I employ him? Probably not. Because there are far too many young kids coming through who might just squeeze him out at the time.”

Jordan defended Stroll and believes some of the criticism directed towards the young Canadian isn’t justified. He went on to talk about Stroll’s fantastic podium drive in Baku three years ago.
“Would you destroy the team that has Sergio, plus income, plus money and the good rhythm inside the team? And let us see, can it unfold, can it get some wins? My absolute dream would be that Racing Point win a race.”
Despite Vettel asserting that money isn’t a priority for himself, a former World Champion does not come cheap. Moreover, Racing Point would be sacrificing some major sponsorship money in getting the German onboard.
