Giovinazzi Dismisses a Common Misconception About Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen is an ageless wonder. At 41-years of age, the ‘Iceman’ continues to surprise fans with impressive performances in a lackluster car.
Having recently been awarded a new contract for 2021, his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi revealed that Raikkonen is still as motivated as ever. Thus dismissing the common perception among fans that F1 is only a ‘hobby’ for the laid back Finn.
The Italian told Motorsport-Total in an exclusive interview (translated by Google), “I have heard many journalists say: At his age, he has reached the end of his Formula 1 career.

“But I can confirm that every time he comes to the track, he is very motivated and ready to take a top spot fight.”
The ‘Iceman’ has managed to score more points than what Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has in the last 5 races. With quite a remarkable P9 outing at Imola, Kimi won the fans’ votes for the ‘driver of the day.’
“Kimi has a lot of experience. That helps a lot. It allows him to get the most out of the car, especially in the race,” said Giovinazzi.
Giovinazzi believes Alfa Romeo made the right decision by sticking with Kimi Raikkonen and himself
Alfa Romeo have continued with the same lineup for the next season. Giovinazzi has shown that he can match up to the former world champion. This can be evidenced in the fact that the qualifying head to head between the two is just shaded by Kimi, 7 to 6.
Moreover, the duo have the exact same number of points (4 each) across 13 races as well.

Giovinazzi said, “We are both important to the team. What we achieve, we achieve through the cooperation we maintain.
“I’ve always emphasized that our driving style is pretty much the same. That can help the team develop the car more quickly. Because we are on the same wavelength when we comment on our comments.”

Thanks to the good relationship between the two drivers and the team, Alfa Romeo have managed to stay clear of fellow rivals Haas and Williams. They currently sit in 8th place on the Constructors Championship table.
With 4 more races to go, the Hinwil based outfit will be aiming to end the season with a double-digit points tally. Can they get both their cars into the top 10 in Turkey? We’ll find out next week on the 15th of November.
