Haas Finds Motivation Despite Ill Start to 2022 F1 Season

Guenther Steiner has recently opened up on Haas’s situation. The team principal has conveyed that a competitive car will help the team in such a distressful situation.
Haas has been on the news lately after parting ways with their Russian driver Nikita Mazepin, and their title sponsor Uralkali. The American team has recently terminated Nikita Mazepin’s contract. As a result, the team has lost its principal sponsor Uralkali. All in all, the situation inside Haas’s paddock at the moment seems to be despondent.

Guenther, as he states that they have a challenging season coming up ahead. In regard to the team’s current situation, as quoted by Speedweek, Steiner conveyed, “The season will be challenging, and it will be easier if you have a competitive car. That makes a big difference in terms of working.”
Can Haas make a comeback from last year’s debacle?
Haas had a disappointing season in 2021. The team failed to collect a point in all 22 races of the season. Both the drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin ended their season with no points.

Haas finished the season at P10 out of 10 teams and drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin finished in P19 and P20, respectively.

Talking about last year and this year’s hope, Steiner further asserted, “Last year, quitting just a week before Christmas was tough, and we already start working for the year 2022 at Christmas. But Corona is not over yet. Motivated people last the season. Having a competitive car is the best motivator for anything.”
Despite such a poor finish in 2021, the team was stuck with their driver lineup until Nikita Mazepin’s contract was terminated due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Due to this, Haas is yet to confirm a replacement for the Russian.

Haas has launched their new challenger, named VF-22 for the 2022 season. With all the drama going on even before the start of the season, the team from the United States will look forward to hanging on to their only hope, a competitive car. It’ll be interesting to see if they can manage to build one before F1 takes to Bahrain for the pre-season testing.
