For those who have been living under a rock, Vettel and Ferrari decided to part ways last month. 2020 is set to be the German’s final year behind the wheel of a Ferrari. After that, no one really knows what the future holds for the 4-time world champion. Some have suggested that he could take a break in 2021, while others (pretty much only Vettel fans) think he’ll join the Silver Arrows. Now here is what Jean Todt hopes for Vettel.

Corriere Della Sera sport interviewed the FIA president, Jean Todt. Speaking about Vettel’s future, Todt said, “I don’t feel like judging. I’m just saying he’s a very talented driver and he doesn’t yet have a car for 2021. I hope for him and F1 that he will have it.”

Furthermore, Todt touched upon why the Vettel and Ferrari combination didn’t quite work. He said, “Motor racing is a combination of man, machine and team. The only alchemy that can work is one that unites everything to win. Without one of these elements, the others do not work, we have already seen it (referring to Vettel).

Additionally, he took a dig at Ferrari by saying that they didn’t give Vettel a title-winning car. He said, “Without the car, neither Alonso nor Vettel won. Sebastian won when he had a competitive car (at Red Bull). You can have the talent but if you don’t have the means, the team, the reliability, you can’t do it. We have to put it all together.”

While the future for the 4-time world champion continues to be shrouded in uncertainty, his present task is clear. Since he has nothing to lose, he’ll be giving his all on the track, in a bid to impress Mercedes. However, it’ll be interesting to see the kind of dynamic he’ll have with his team and fellow driver, Charles Leclerc this year.
