Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz became footballers for a night! The two exchanged a fun banter about who’s the better footballer while playing for the ‘World Stars Football Match’ event in Monaco. They hold the event annually as a tradition leading up to the Monaco Grand Prix that will take place from 26th May to 29th May.

Held at Monaco’s Stade Louis II, the event hosts several athletes from around the world. A special team called ‘All Stars Formula 1 Drivers’ goes up against a ‘Star Team For The Children’. The F1 team included Pierre Gasly, Leclerc, Fernando Alonso and Sainz this year.

Ferrari boys Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz play a fun match in Monaco

As a part of the F1 team, Leclerc and Sainz donned white and black chequered jerseys. The two Ferrari boys, ironically, even support rival footballing clubs: FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Understandably, fun bickering had to start where Sainz was told, @Charles_Leclerc said maybe he was better than you tonight, that he’s doing well in football.”

To this, Sainz replied, “Did he said that?” and was told that Leclerc was in fact joking. The two were on different sides of the pitch and played different positions. Further, as they received little opportunity to play in proximity, Sainz said, “I tried to get close to him twice but he didn’t see me or didn’t want to see me I don’t know.

Many have widely considered the Spaniard and Monegasque as future world champions. Moreover, they’re friendly together and seem to get along well. However, this season, Sainz has particularly faced troubles. While Leclerc has mostly finished in points or podiums, Sainz has had a tricky season.

The Spaniard faced two DNFs and has been arguably more prone to mistakes. He has crashed the car several times and ran off the track in Spain as well. As Ferrari lost the lead to Red Bull and currently sits second, can Sainz and Leclerc bring them back to number 1?
