The driver who shares the world record of 7 titles with Lewis Hamilton is on the sidelines for 9 years now. In December 2013, Michael Schumacher suffered an accident while skiing in the French Alps. The Schumacher family immediately transferred him to the hospital, where he was in a coma for 6 months.

Schumacher is arguably the most famous name in the world of motorsports. The German driver set the benchmark of his time and redefined the meaning of limits forever. He peaked while wearing the red racing suit from 1996 to 2006. Notably, he won 5 world titles when racing for Ferrari.

The Ferrari won 6 consecutive constructor titles, which led to it being termed the ‘golden years’ for the team. The media entitled them the ‘dream team’ because of their high success. It comprised Jean Todt as general manager, Ross Brawn as technical director, Rory Byrne as chief designer, Marco Fainello as head of vehicle dynamics, Paolo Martinelli as engine director, Stefano Domenicali as team manager, and Luca Baldisserri as head of track engineering.

Since the former world champion is away from the public, many have questioned about his health status. There are many reports about his condition and his recovery status. In a recent interview with NTV, Jean Todt, who was actively involved in the German’s triumph with the Maranello outfit, provided an update.

Todt said “I don’t miss Michael. I can see him. But of course, what I miss is what we used to do together.”

He further shed light on if Schumacher is healthy enough to tune into the 2022 season. “Yes, it’s true – I watch the races with Michael,” Todt commented.

Michael Schumacher debuted in 1991 in the premier racing class. He began his career at Jordan and jumped ship mid-season to the Benetton. He won the 1994 and 1995 world titles with the team which caught the attention of the prancing horses.

The two-time world champion at the time joined the Ferrari amidst a slump. The team fell behind in the pecking order and aimed to restore its legacy. This is where the dream team stole the spotlight with their successive constructors and drivers’ titles. Many regard it as Schumacher’s greatest contribution to the sport.

Todt served as the team principal of the Ferrari during these fruitful years. After his time with the team, he served as the president of the FIA, and only last year did he retire from his role. When receiving the Lifetime Achievement award from the Auto Bild, he spoke highly of his former companion.

He said, “Pictures of him hang everywhere in my offices and apartments. The time with Michael will always be remembered as the best of my life. We love each other because we wrote an incredible story together. And because we always stuck together in difficult times.”
