The Monaco curse struck once again!! It just looks like Ferrari’s golden boy and 2022 championship leader Charles Leclerc can never have a straightforward outing in his hometown of Monaco. Every time the Monegasque manages to get himself onto the streets of Monaco with a Formula 1 car, the result has been rather awry.

Since making his F1 debut in 2018, the Ferrari driver is yet to complete his home race. The homeboy has either crashed out or other external factors have played spoilsport in his race-finishing hopes.

In 2018, Leclerc slammed into the rear of Brendon Hartley while attempting an opportunistic move after the tunnel for P11. The brakes of his Alfa Romeo gave out at the worst possible time as he flew in the air after hitting the back of Hartley, taking the Kiwi out as well.

In 2019, he was looking good enough to clinch pole position, but Ferrari messed up his qualifying. That meant he had to settle for a rather dismal P16 and in the race, in his eagerness to make positions, he made several contacts. Eventually, he retired from the race after a poor showing in front of his home crowd.

But things looked better in 2021 as qualified for the pole position. But in the final run of Q3, Leclerc crashed just before the swimming pool chicane which caused significant damage to his car.

Of course, the engineers gave their best at repairing the car and avoiding any kind of grid penalties, but a ruptured driveshaft forced Leclerc to back out of the main event before the lights even went out.

The Monegasque driver once again crashed his car in Monaco, but this time in a non-competitive atmosphere. He took the iconic Niki Lauda’s Ferrari out for a spin but crashed it at the Rascasse corner.

Charles noticed his never-ending bad luck in the streets of the principality and said,” When you thought you already had all the bad luck of the world in Monaco and you lose the brakes into Rascasse with one of the most iconic historical Ferrari Formula 1 car,”

Overall, Leclerc will be keeping his fingers crossed ahead of the forthcoming Monaco GP and will be looking to put an end to his bitter history with the tricky Monte Carlo circuit.

All he needs in Monaco is a clean weekend where he keeps his car out of the walls. Since his debut in 2018, Leclerc has managed to crash his car 3 times in the streets where he grew up. But let’s see how he performs when F1 heads to its crown jewel at the end of May.
