By now, everyone knows how big of a leap, in terms of performance, Racing Point have made this year. After showing off their amazing pace in Austria, they clearly looked like the second-best team on the grid, during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Many tout them to be the dark horses this year, especially considering that they use a Mercedes engine (and pretty much last year’s Mercedes car).

However, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is having none of it. He fails to see them as Mercedes’ biggest title contender and even took a shot at them, with the classic ‘Pink Mercedes’ uppercut.

Max Verstappen accuses Racing Point of copying Mercedes

Speaking to RaceFans, Verstappen made his views on the Silverstone-based outfit very clear.

Regarding them being touted as title contenders, he said, “No, they will never be in the title fight. Compared to Mercedes, no. They are like a second behind Mercedes, so no. If you copy, you will always be behind.”

However, he did laud them for their performance in qualifying, where his team flopped. He said, “But they did a good job and we did a very bad job. So we just need to see what we can do. It’s going to be close I think.”

The Racing Point duo of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez will start the race in P3 and P4 respectively. Whereas the Red Bull drivers, Verstappen and Alex Albon will start the race in P7 and P13 respectively.

A lot more was expected from Red Bull at the Hungaroring but so far they have failed to deliver. However, can they mount a comeback during the race? We’ll soon find out.

With a very good chance that the Hungarian Grand Prix might be a wet race, fans will likely get to see a whole lot of drama and action on the track.

Can the showers spice things up? Will anybody be able to stop Mercedes from achieving a 1-2 finish? Can Verstappen fight his way to the top? Will we see a Racing Point on the podium?

There are a lot of exciting things to look out for, once the F1 action resumes at the Hungaroring.
