“I Think That’s Going to be a Challenge” – Lando Norris Expresses Concern for Physically Demanding Schedule

Formula One is expected to return next month, but many drivers are wary of the physical strain on their bodies. McLaren driver Lando Norris is one such person, and he believes that racing a Formula 1 car after a long period away, could be “a challenge”.
So far, F1 has crammed in eight races centered around Europe within the span of 10 weekends. Additionally, F1 plans to squeeze in more races to try and fill up the calendar.
Everything kicks off with the Austrian Grand Prix on 5 July, with plans for double-headers. Admittedly, Norris believes that he and his contemporaries will get up to speed within a few laps. However, he warned that the truncated schedule could strain everyone’s bodies and push it to the limit.

Speaking to Autosport, the McLaren driver said, “It’s not going to be easy for all of the drivers, but I think we’re all very good at what we do and I don’t think it would take us too long, probably laps really, to get back in the hang of really how to drive the car.”
“I think that’s going to be the bigger challenge for the drivers, because as much training as you do. As much as I’ve been doing and a lot of drivers I’m sure have been doing, driving a race car. Just the forces it puts you under and how it puts you under those forces is very different. I think that’s going to be a challenge.”

How has Lando Norris prepared for the season?
With July quickly approaching, teams have begun testing once again and putting the drivers through their paces. Mercedes and Ferrari conducted tests in older F1 machinery, but McLaren went in a different direction.
The 20-year-old Brit and his teammate Carlos Sainz, joined hands with junior team Carlin. Even though the Carlin F3 car does not hold a candle to an F1 car, Lando Norris felt that the test would still help their preparation.

“The weather wasn’t great which is the only thing especially after how nice it’s been in the UK,” Norris said.
“This was our first day back driving and it was drizzling all day, it was horrible but I wasn’t complaining, I think it was good fun, it was nice to be back driving a real car again.
