Scuderia Ferrari has been struggling this season, and Sebastian Vettel knows it. At the recently concluded Hungarian Grand Prix, he realized just how far behind the team was.
So, he confessed that Lewis Hamilton lapping him may have been ‘painful’, but it wasn’t surprising. The fed-up German admitted that the SF1000’s current performance was “unacceptable”.
The 4-time world champion was a top dog for Ferrari in Hungary’s mixed conditions and ended up sixth. This was his best result so far this season, as an added bonus he defeated teammate Charles Leclerc who finished down in 11th.

According to Sebastian Vettel, the pace gulf was so great that he expected to be lapped.
“It was already clear that he would lap us before the race,” he told Sky F1. “It was not a surprise. I think probably today this was where we could finish, arguably fifth or sixth but probably not further up.”
As his time with the prancing horses comes to an end, Vettel was determined to go out with a bang, and he sure did. His performance was particularly impressive compared to that of Leclerc, especially in an under-performing Ferrari.
He also had a titanic battle with Alex Albon for fifth.

To that end, team boss Mattia Binotto admitted, “An extremely disappointing Sunday, and the result is very hard to swallow. In qualifying, we had got the most out of the car as it is at the moment, but in the race that was not the case.
