“It’s Been Really Tough” – Ferrari’s Honest Admission Amid Embarrassing 2020 F1 Season

At the Turkish Grand Prix, Ferrari picked up 27 points to close the gap for third place. With the championship decided, there is still an intense battle between Racing Point, McLaren, Renault, and Ferrari. The four teams are within 24 points of each other.

First time in the history of Formula 1, the season is ending with three races on consecutive weekends. The season will end with a triple-header – two races in Bahrain and the last one in Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari’s sporting director, Laurent Mekies, answered a few questions about how this weekend looks for them. Mekies admitted that this reason has been unusually difficult and the team’s performance has been underwhelming.

“There’s no denying it’s been really tough. The situation created by the pandemic and the fact our performance was poor at the start of the season made life difficult,” he said.

Mekies claims this season has made Ferrari stronger

Even though the season has been nothing short of terrible for the team, Mekies believes that there is a silver lining to it.

He said, “But everything we have been through has made us strconger, we have not lost our bearings, we never gave up and we always wanted to fight back and improve.”

Mekies praised the team for their determination and resilience. He also thanked the fans for their continuous support and belief in the team.

The sporting director explained the team’s objective going forward. He said, “Our aim is to carry on making up ground in terms of our performance when compared to those teams we are fighting with this year and that has been on-going for the last five races now,” he further added.

With 27 points at the Turkish Grand Prix, Ferrari have pulled right back into the fight for P3. However, Racing Point has shown impressive pace at the Istanbul Park. Meanwhile, the Ferrari drivers will be confident for the triple-header after their result last weekend. The team will look forward to closing the season at the top of the mid-field.
