The FIA Karting World Championship is an exciting opportunity for young drivers to prove their mettle. A platform for some to take the next step towards open-wheel racing.
However, at the same time, there is no room for troublemakers. And it is tough to see how 23-year-old Luca Corberi could continue racing after his unsporting behaviour.
Former F1 world champion and McLaren driver Jenson Button took to Twitter to share some footage of the incident. In addition, he also called out the karting driver for his actions.

The incident took place at the FIA Karting World Championship 2020. Racing at the Lonato Circuit, Luca Corberi was forced to retire his car after some contact with another driver.
But instead of heading to the garage, he stood on the sidelines, and as the other racers continued driving, Corberi was seen throwing what was his kart’s bumper at one Paolo Ippolito.

Seeing this, Button shared a post on Twitter captioned, “Luca Corberi has just destroyed any chance he had at a racing career after his disgusting behaviour today at the FIA Karting World champs.
“His father owns the circuit and is seen power driving the guy into a wall. Life ban for both of these idiots please.”
It is clear that Corberi believed Ippolito caused his race retirement. But no sport ever tolerates rage and recklessness; none more so than the motorsports world.

The disappointing part is that Corberi was not quick to drop his vendetta. Further footage later revealed that he charged into Ippolito in the pit lanes. The tussle lasted for some seconds before fellow drivers and race officials intervened to separate the two.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown was in agreement with Button’s words. Tweeting from his handle, he replied to the post stating, “I totally agree with @JensonButton.”
The onus now falls on the FIA to deliberate things and chart a course of action for all parties involved. And based on the actions in the recorded footage, the consequences are certainly going to be very serious for Corberi.
