Lewis Hamilton & Toto Wolff’s ‘Liability’ Set to Return to F1 as FIA Makes Place for Masi

Lewis Hamilton had to lose his 2021 title to Max Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi GP because of former race director Michael Masi’s controversial safety car decision. Later Masi has to lose his job when FIA found him guilty of the safety car. But he might be returning to F1 in the future which will not impress Mercedes.
FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem wants three race directors, and he’s considering re-employ Masi. “Michael is there, and we might use him. I didn’t say we were getting rid of him. I said we might use him. He may be in a good place to use. We are open to everything.” Sulayem further said.

However, Masi’s re-employment might infuriate the Mercedes F1’s Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff, who are against it. Further, the Mercedes team principal Wolff thinks of Michael Masi as a ‘liability’ because of the Abu Dhabi incident.
The Mercedes boss reported, “He was a liability for the sport because everybody kept talking about Abu Dhabi and the race director, and the race director should not be somebody that people talk about, but someone who does the job and makes sure the race is run according to the regulations.”
Lewis Hamilton might not race in Monaco GP
The new FIA president is trying his best to improve the sport. Already one of his new recruitments, Niels Wittich, has introduced a jewelry ban and mandated wearing fireproof underwear. However, many F1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, refused to abide by the new rule.

The seven-time world champion wore a hand full of jewelry and watches during the press conference at Miami GP. Later, the FIA allowed Hamilton to race only wearing just his nose stud. However, the relaxation on the jewelry is only for two races. If he fails to remove all jewelry in the grace period, he will not be allowed to partake in the Monaco GP.

Further, the FIA president also broke his silence on this matter. Sulayem reported, “You can’t let people off because they are your friends. There has to be one rule for all, and that’s that. I absolutely love it. But in the car, there can be no choice. People say they (the rules) haven’t been implemented before. Don’t ask me why not.”
