The new season has come with lots of changes. More changes than any other season in recent times. With such changes, Mercedes are facing the biggest challenges. The engines developed by the German giants lack performance as compared to their competitors.

Strangely enough, The Mercedes AMG F1 cars are much slower than their predecessors. Not only this, but also the Aston Martin, Williams, and McLaren cars are suffering the same fate. Since they all take engines from Mercedes, they all had to go through disappointing performances in Bahrain.

On this, Mike Krack, the Team Principal for Aston Martin has conveyed, “It’s something we had already seen quite early on. But, on the other hand, we see the Mercedes works team finishing third and fourth, so you can still get the job done. I think the competition may have taken a bigger step than us, and that’s something we need to catch up.”

Talking about this, McLaren driver Lando Norris stated, “You always have a Mercedes in third and fourth position. I mean, it definitely doesn’t help. I think we definitely lack performance on that side compared to the other guys. But I’ve also seen other issues with other guys [Red Bull], so reliability is good, and I guess that’s a positive at the moment.”

What’s wrong with the Mercedes engines?

The engine lacks straight-line speed, as expressed by drivers. Moreover, Mercedes AMG F1 themselves are yet to fix their porpoising issue on their car. It is believed that the arrival of new E10 fuel has something to do with the destabilization. The sustainable fuel at 10% of total fuel destabilized the Mercedes power unit more than expected.

Ferrari and Haas covered this sector quite well as seen by the Italian team’s blistering pace in Bahrain. Moreover, the six cars with Mercedes engines have all finished at the back of the pack.
