The pre-season testing in Barcelona is officially over. All the F1 teams, including the top 2 title constructor’s title contenders Mercedes and Red Bull, tested their new 2022 cars over 3 days at the Catalunya circuit before they head into the 2022 season in a month.

These pre-season tests are more about checking the mileage and reliability of the new cars. Hence, considering these tests runs might not be the best way to judge the pecking order for the teams. However, according to F1 journalist, Lawrence Barretto Mercedes might be bringing some big upgrades to the Pre-season test in Bahrain.

The defending constructors’ champions completed their runs without coming into the limelight in the first two days. But they quickly bounced back to leave Barcelona with the fastest timings on the board. Considering this, Lawrence reports that the car they will bring to Bahrain testing will be different from Barcelona’s.

F1 Journalist claims Mercedes and Red Bull to bring upgrades in Bahrain testing

There was little doubt over the competitiveness of Mercedes and Red Bull following their epic fight in 2021. And this is now more evident than ever as both the teams managed to take the fastest four slots on day 3.

Despite all this, both teams will bring on new upgrades to their cars to continue improving their performance.

As reported by Planetf1, F1 journalist Lawrence Barretto has said, “It has emerged that this is only an early iteration. Sources say Red Bull will bring a significantly upgraded car to Bahrain, as was always the plan, and after a reasonably productive opening test focused on reliability and system checks, they’ll turn their attention to chasing performance next week.”

He further added, “Mercedes, who looked marginally better than their main rivals Red Bull in Barcelona, brought improvements to the car across the three days in Spain and are widely expected to bring a heavily upgraded car–again as planned–to Bahrain, in a strategy we’ve seen them employ several times in the previous years.”

It would be interesting to see if the new upgrades improve the performance of both cars on the track. Both teams are looking very strong in terms of reliability and pace compared to their rivals.

It is safe to assume that the cars we saw in Barcelona will not be the cars we see in Bahrain in a couple of weeks’ time.
