Toto Wolff led Mercedes to one of F1’s most phenomenal runs of winning an unparalleled 8 straight constructor’s championship. The Silver Arrows also saw Lewis Hamilton win the title 6 times, whereas Nico Rosberg won it once. But after enduring a testing 2022 season, the Austrian backs his team to fight back next season and challenge their rivals, Red Bull.

The Milton-Keynes team won the WCC one-sided with 3 races remaining in the season. Meanwhile, Ferrari held their nerve to fend off a late challenge from Mercedes to keep hold of P2. Consequently, after the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, Toto Wolff fired a warning to their rivals and claimed that the Silver Arrows will be back again next season.

Not the one to give up, the Mercedes boss knows that the challenge to take the fight to Red Bull will be tough. Moreover, Wolff is ready to risk it all and take Mercedes back to the top spot once again.

He said, “I’m always a half-empty glass guy, and I see the risks. As a matter of fact, if you’re trying to be logical, Red Bull was very dominant throughout the season.”

The Austrian also added, “It’s going to be very difficult to have a development slope that is steeper than theirs, and also Ferrari – but I believe in the organization.”

Mercedes won just a single race this season when George Russell crossed the checkered flag ahead of everybody else in Interlagos. The Brazilian GP was also the first 1-2 for the Silver Arrows since 2020 Imola. Lewis Hamilton will hope that Mercedes has a productive winter break as he looks to fight for his 8th title.

Mercedes are “winners” according to Lewis Hamilton despite his winless year

Toto Wolff will be proud of how Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have handled the pressure this season. However, the 103 race winner has been all praise for his team despite his 15-year-old record of winning a race each season coming to an end.

Hamilton said“There have been so many scenarios like that this year where I think that honestly, the journey has been the most important part and this year, we are winners this year, to me,” said Hamilton, speaking for his team ahead of Brazil.

He added, “I feel everyone in the team this year is a winner. They’ve all dug so deep, they’ve given absolutely everything. Nobody has given up and everyone has overcome whatever emotions they have had of not being at the forefront.”

Hamilton and Mercedes improved their W13 car massively from what it was during the first half of the season. The 7-time champion suffered massive porpoising before fighting back in the second half.
