“More than Just a Sister Team”- Pierre Gasly Reveals AlphaTauri Has Big Ambitions

It shocked the F1 community when AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly won the race at Monza out of absolutely nowhere. On a personal level, he would have felt he well deserved the win. After all, he has gone from being a ‘Red Bull reject’ to a race winner in a matter of 12 months.
But at a much broader scale, he is being a catalyst to the hundreds of employees working in the Italian racing team’s factory. For much of this season, they have been midfield battlers. But that could change ahead in the forthcoming seasons, according to Pierre Gasly.
Pierre Gasly believes AlphaTauri is carving out its own status in F1

In a brief interview with Motorsport.com, they quoted him as saying, “I think it’s a unique situation to Toro Rosso/Red Bull, and how it was before. I think the project is exciting. As I said at the moment, the Red Bull team is clearly the top team of the two.
“But I think that the ambition of AlphaTauri is to, at some point, match their performances. And this means we also need the resources and to have bigger facilities to have this sort of thing.”

After confirming an engine partnership with Honda for 2021, both Red Bull-owned teams could share a new wind tunnel system. The idea and intention is most certainly to have two competitive teams fighting it out, ideally side-by-side.

And these changes suggest that it could be more than a main and reserve team concept.
Gasly at AlphaTauri would not necessarily be a bad thing
Of course, Gasly would be lying if he said he would not want to move to Red Bull Racing again. There is an actual fire and desire to prove his critics wrong, should they present him with the chance. However, Christian Horner has confirmed that Alex Albon will continue with Red Bull for 2021.

So, it seems like a return for Gasly is limited to just transfer speculation at the moment. But like he stated, staying at AlphaTauri and enhancing his reputation might actually do him a world of good.
