Nico Hulkenberg: F1 Is on Its Way to Being Really Sexy Again

Former F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg has talked about the F1 season that ended as well as the one that is about to start. The German has mentioned the excitement F1 has brought in recent times is very thrilling. Among these exciting moments was, of course, the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The last race at UAE saw an ending like no other. Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen started the GP with identical points, aiming to finish ahead of the other to win the title. After completing 21 races, it was surprising to see the two title contenders exactly at 369.5 points. And although most people didn’t expect it, the championship fight came down to the very last lap of the race.
Nico Hulkenberg in his blog on LinkedIn penned down, “The 2021 F1 season ended with a real bang. Rarely there has been such a media response after a race, with sports fans around the world discussing the controversial, historic final round in Abu Dhabi.”

The last lap of the last race attracted huge controversies. Lewis Hamilton calling it ‘manipulative’ and the Mercedes team presenting appeals to the FIA against the race direction. Michael Masi’s call to unlap the cars fetched criticisms as Mercedes and Hamilton’s fans called for the Australian’s resignation. Lewis fans called the title a robbed one and started trends on Twitter, F1 has never seen such an event before.
The former Renault driver further wrote, “In my opinion, this rousing finale was no coincidence, much more the sum of several parts that have developed over the last few years. F1 is on its way to being really sexy again.”
How the F1 has changed over the years?
There was a time when Red Bull dominated the sport from 2010 to 2013. Then came Mercedes who conquered by winning every constructor’s and driver’s championship until 2020. However, with things switching up, F1 has indeed become way more exciting than before. As teams have started launching their cars for the 2022 season, a mouth-watering clash between Max and Lewis is again on the brink.

To conclude the 2021 season, the fights between Red Bull and Mercedes were for the top; the battle between Ferrari and McLaren was for the third spot; and the clash between Alpine, Aston Martin, and AlphaTauri was for the midfield positions. But with these new regulations in place, fans are now expecting a much more level playing field. Furthermore, we can certainly not discard the hype regarding Ferrari fighting for the 2022 championship.
