Lance Stroll’s sudden illness a few hours ahead of FP3 resulted in Nico Hulkenberg replacing the young Canadian behind the wheel of the ‘Pink Mercedes’. However, the Hulk did not fare very well as he failed to make it out of Qualifier 1.

Nico Hulkenberg, one fo the most experienced drivers on the track, was an absolute beast in the years past. However, for several reasons, he had to make way for Esteban Ocon in 2019.

Yet, his experience and conviction convinced Racing Point to sign him as a substitute driver at Silverstone; with Lance Stroll out, he will steer the car for Racing Point this weekend.

Nico Hulkenberg performs well after a last-minute call

No matter how fast and experienced you are, practice is quintessential. However, Nico Hulkenberg was in for a total blinder. Arriving at Nurburgring just 15 before FP1 was to kick off, the racer definitely didn’t get enough track time. He was not in sync with his car and faltered severely at the tight turns of Nurburgring.

The German’s teammate, Checo Perez, was also struggling with the car as well; however, he brought the Pink Mercedes to heel soon enough. All things considered, Nico was just four-tenths off the leader; keeping his last-minute call up in mind, that seems fantastic.

Along with Hulkenberg, we had Kimi Raikkonen, George Russell, Daniil Kvyat, and Romain Grosjean also out of Q1. The German will start at P20 for the Eifel Grand Prix and considering he gets in sync with his car, he may be able to fight his way to a points finish. Fingers crossed!
