However, with a powerful drive in Baku, the AlphaTauri man finished on P5 behind both the Red Bulls and Mercedes.

Gasly has been making his case to rejoin Red Bull ever since his demotion from the team. Gasly’s Baku went beyond expectations

The Frenchman expected a powerful performance in Baku, but the race exceeded his expectations. The team was confident about the Azerbaijan GP after the race in Monaco. But scrapping with Lewis Hamilton for much of the race was definitely a welcome surprise for Gasly.

“We knew we would get a chance to do well after seeing our pace in Monaco. To be fighting with Lewis probably not, so I would say it was slightly better than we expected,” the French racing driver said to Sky Sports F1.
