Toto Wolff Jokes About Mercedes Taking Extreme Measures to Meet Lewis Hamilton’s Salary in New Contract

Amidst all the success Lewis Hamilton is enjoying on the track, it is almost easy to forget that the 6-time World Champion still doesn’t have a contract for the next season.
Undoubtedly, Hamilton, who broke the record by winning his 92nd race, will not leave Mercedes. As the Briton eyes his record equaling 7th world title, he would surely want to make it 8 next season. Therefore, renewing with Mercedes is pretty much the logical choice.
However, with only 5 races to go, a renewal hasn’t taken place yet. Mercedes themselves wouldn’t want to part ways with Hamilton and team boss Toto Wolff joked that they’ll go to any extent to keep Lewis at the Brackley-based outfit.

Following the culmination of the Portuguese Grand Prix, in light of Hamilton’s record-breaking success, Wolff said that Hamilton’s contract would have to be “Huge.”
He said, “We will have to sell plenty of inventory and sell the lease back to the buildings, just to come up with the money. It will, however, be money well spent.”
Looking at the kind of success that Mercedes have enjoyed with Lewis, they might as well pay him whatever he demands. Especially if they wish to achieve more success in the future.

Like nearly every other person on the planet, Wolff too was left praising the indomitable Hamilton. He said, “Who would have thought that when we embarked on this project together in 2013, Lewis would get to 92 wins? It is almost surreal.
“It is credit to his absolute passion, energy and everything that he puts in the sport. His talent and ability just stand out.”
