Charles Leclerc has enjoyed a great start to the weekend in Portimao. The Monegasque ended the first Free Practice Session in P4 and the next two in P6.

It looks as though Leclerc has found a way of getting the best out of the lackluster SF1000 yet again. While his car may not have been causing him too many concerns, his radio definitely was.

During a run-out in the final Free Practice Session, Leclerc complained that he could hear Lewis Hamilton, of all people, on his radio.

Sounding confused, Leclerc said, “What’s happening, what’s happening? Why am I hearing the radio of others? I was hearing Hamilton on the radio. I mean, I was hearing an engineer or someone.”

Clearly, it was some sort of cross connection, or the fact that someone on the pit wall made the silly mistake of dialing in the wrong channel.

Or perhaps, maybe as a last resort, the Scuderia decided to get Hamilton or his engineer to help them through the session. After all, the 6-time World Champion himself has stated in the past that he’d prefer a lot more challenging races.

Maybe the Briton is taking a page out of Sebastian Vettel’s book and deciding to do more than just drive the car. Jokes apart, Leclerc has definitely made a strong case for a positive finish in Portugal.

However, the same cannot be said for his teammate Vettel.

To be honest, Vettel has actually done much better than what many thought he would. The 4-time World Champion ended the first Free Practice Session in P11.

He followed that up with a much better FP2, completing the session in P6! However, he ended the final practice session with yet another P11.

The results may not have been too great, but he has fared a lot worse this season. He should take some solace going into the qualifying session, thanks to that P6 performance.

Leclerc and Vettel sit in 8th and 13th on the Drivers’ Championship standings, respectively. They have combined to give Ferrari a total of 80 points thus far.

A far cry from what Ferrari would have hoped for prior to the season. They’d dearly love to leave Portugal with a triple figure points tally. Only time will tell if their dream can come true.
