Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc capped off a brilliant weekend in Portugal with an excellent P4 finish. While he was undoubtedly happy about his own performance, he was more concerned about his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Following the culmination of the Portuguese Grand Prix, Leclerc congratulated the team for his fine performance via the team radio. But he also took that as an opportunity to confirm with his race engineer whether Vettel had finished among the points.

He said, “Congratulations guys! P4, nice. Seb, P10 I saw, no? Good.”

His race engineer then proceeded to read out the Top-10 finishers. However, Vettel’s name was not mentioned. That lead the Monegasque to ask his race engineer to repeat the order again. This time, the 4-time World Champion was mentioned finishing P10.

This was not the first time this season that Leclerc has been concerned about Vettel. A similar occurrence took place in Britain.

Finishing P10, Vettel took his points tally for the season to 18. Not really what the German would have been hoping for at the start of the season. But considering the fact that he has managed to bag only one point in the last 5 races, a point here would be a welcome change.

As for Leclerc, a P4 finish is as good as it gets. He takes his points tally to 75, 4x more than what his teammate has managed.

Such has been the disparity between the two Scuderia drivers. Even Vettel himself acknowledged that and was honest enough to admit that at the moment Leclerc is miles ahead of him.

As for Ferrari, they’d be more than happy with the way the weekend has panned out. After all, they have struggled to get both of their drivers into the top ten.

Yes, they are still light years away from the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull, but they are still very much alive and kicking in the mid-field battle.

It’ll be interesting to see if they can carry this morale booster into the next race. Heading back to Italy, Ferrari would want to put on a similar solid outing in front of their home crowd.
