Racing Point Take a Cheeky Dig at Ferrari on Twitter Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix

If the Mercedes F1 team is dominating on the racetrack, Racing Point are dominating on social media. In the buildup to the British Grand Prix, the Scuderia Ferrari twitter account mistyped ‘Race Week’. So, the word that came out was ‘Rawe Ceek’.

Obviously, Twitter had a field day taking Ferrari back to school. A week later, the Racing Point team decided to take a few potshots at Ferrari when they announced that it was race week.

How is the situation at Scuderia Ferrari?

In a nutshell… things are very dire at the Italian marquee’s camp. The team has been hopelessly off pace, and Spa Francorchamps was an excellent indication for the same.

In practice, both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel occupied the bottom of the leaderboards. In qualifying, they were both eliminated in Q2, and almost had one driver out in Q1 itself.

The race itself went no better, as they were not even the fastest Ferrari-powered cars on the track. That honor went to Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen, an ex Ferrari driver and, interestingly, their last F1 champion.

Truthfully, it is extremely awkward for the factory team to be slower than the customer team.

With Monza next on the calendar, the Ferrari team may be dreading a race in their backyard, as their top speed deficit stands to be exposed. To make matters worse, Monza will be followed by Mugello, and later in the season, the paddock heads to Imola.

Having one home race is hard enough with pressure on the team to perform well on their home soil. However, with three races on Italian soil, the team has practically taken Atlas’ place holding up the sky.

In other words, the pressure on the team and drivers will be intense. This is because they will be forced to shoulder the hopes and dreams of millions of passionate Italian fans.
