‘Realistic’ Mercedes F1 Projects Inferior Lewis Hamilton-George Russell Canadian GP Results Despite Top 4 Glory

Mercedes will be happy with their much-needed positive result from the Canadian GP. Hamilton in P3 and Russell in P4 will bring back a lot of lost morale in the Mercedes paddock. The Brackley-based team could not cope with the 2o22 regulations and had struggled for pace and with bouncing.
The struggles still continue for the Silver Arrows, however, with a lack of pace compared to the competition. Russell’s been a consistent driver so far, but they need Hamilton up there as well in the top five every race. And to get the desired pace to achieve race wins and consistent podiums, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

The Silver Arrows are being realistic with their expectations and progress. There’s progress, but with Leclerc without the grid penalty and Perez without the DNF, the realistic result would be P5 and P6. And this assessment comes from the Mercedes Technical Director, Mike Elliott.
He explained, “I think firstly, the race team executed really well this weekend. They brought the most we could get from our car in third and fourth place but I think as a team we are realistic with ourselves. I think Leclerc wasn’t there, Perez wasn’t there, and we were sort of not gifted that place because we deserved it, but we would’ve finished fifth and sixth if they were in the running.”

He added, “But we are very realistic, we got our feet properly on the ground and we know we’ve got to work really hard from here.”
The team is cautiously optimistic about the development of the car. And there’s a positive outlook toward the season compared to the bleak start.

The Silver Arrows won’t sit on their result from Canada and will try to build on it with upgrades for the British GP. The technical director Elliott confirmed there will be upgrades as the Mercedes crew continue the hard work.
“One thing you can be sure of is we will push as hard as we can,” said Elliott. Elliott feels the new parts for Silverstone will push the car forward and closer to Red Bull and Ferrari.

The Silver Arrows still have a lot of work to do to catch their rivals in terms of pace. And Silverstone will be an excellent judge of that with the race in a fortnight.
