For a fairly long time, the COVID-19 pandemic halted almost every sporting event in its tracks. Now, normalcy is slowly resuming, with football back in action and motorsport is not far behind. The 2020 F1 season will tentatively begin with the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. After months of dead silence, engine sounds finally shattered the Viennese tranquility, but not from F1 cars. The Red Bull KTM MotoGP team held a two-day private test at the former A-1 Ring facility. The idea was to get back in the groove in case the MotoGP season began. In addition to that, it would also mean that KTM were breaking the circuit in for the F1 cars. The Red Bull KTM team is the first MotoGP team hit the track since the cancelled Qatar Grand Prix. At that time, the MotoGP class race at Doha got called off at the eleventh hour. So, the Moto3 and Moto2 classes carried on without their premier class counterparts. Unfortunately, South Africa’s lockdown rules prevented rookie rider Brad Binder from attending. With this test, the bikes should hopefully lay down some rubber, so the circuit won’t be completely green. However, one big question that may plague the drivers is their preparation. This is arguably the longest that an F1 driver has been away from their car. So one cannot really blame them if they are a little rusty. Some teams are even predicting carnage in the first couple of races. This is largely because of the gap and also the severely shortened calendar, with double-headers and even talks of triple-headers. Truly, the 2020 season has turned into the most bizarre year.

The Austrian Grand Prix is a yearly Formula One race. An FIA authorized racing event, the first F1 race in Austria was held in 1964. Formula One got back to Austria in 1970?1987 and 1997?2003. Austria once again started hosting the races in 2014.

2020 F1 season was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. There were numerous changes in the 2020 schedule, with multiple Grand Prix weekends being cancelled. As a result, Austria facilitated two consecutive Formula One races at the Red Bull Ring in 2021 - the Styrian Grand Prix and Austrian Grand Prix. Despite the fact that the Styrian GP was a one-off race, F1 saved it for the 2021 schedule too.

<h2>Circuit details</h2>
The Austrian Grand Prix has been held in two distinct areas since its inception. It lies in southeastern Austria, being initially held in Zeltweg. Since 1969, the Austrian Grand Prix has been hosted in Spielberg. There are two different circuits where F1 races have been run in Austria.

It was first held at the Zeltweg Air Base. Since 1970, the races are being run in the circuit that was initially called the ?sterreichring and later known as the A-1 ring and Red Bull Ring.

<h2><strong>Where to watch the Austrian Grand Prix 2021?</strong></h2>
In India, the practice sessions, qualifying, and the race will be broadcast on the Star Sports network. In Africa, Supersport is in charge of broadcast while in Asia and Australia, Fox Sports handles the broadcast. Canada has RDS while China telecasts the race on CCTV. France relies of TF1 and Canal+ for their Formula One telecast.

Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have RTL Germany to thank. Italians who cannot will be watching on Sky Italia. Spain and Andorra have Movistar, while the United Kingdom has Channel 4 and Sky Sports. USA also shows the race on ESPN, while Brazil relies on TV Globo.

<strong>History</strong>

The Formula One World Championship first started back in 1950. The very first F1 champion was Italy's Guiseppe Farina who raced for Alfa Romeo.

The sport has had 33 different champions in its history and a few of them are multiple championship winners. Currently, the driver with the most championships is <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/michael-schumacher/">Michael Schumacher</a> with 7 under his belt. However, <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/category/f1/mercedes">Mercedes</a> driver <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/lewis-hamilton/">Lewis Hamilton</a> will be eager to overhaul that. Hamilton currently holds 6 World Championships and stands on the cusp of equalling Michael Schumacher's record at the end of the season.

Hamilton and Mercedes are the defending Champions with the pair's dominance unlikely to end anytime soon.

For a long time, Bernie Ecclestone was the F1 supremo, having founded the Formula One Group. He?spent 40 years as chief executive of the company after gaining control of the commercial rights.

But in 2017, he stepped down and ownership was handed to Liberty Media who have been taking care of F1 since then. To herald their control, they even changed the F1 logo.

Chase Carey was the first F1 CEO in the 'liberty era' of F1 and will be stepping down at the end of the year. Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali will succeed the American in 2021.
