Alfa Romeo are all set to give reserve driver Robert Kubica another shot behind the steering wheel of the C39. This will be the Polish driver’s second time driving the car. Last week, Kubica had driven Antonio Giovinazzi’s car during the first practice session ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix.

However, this time around, Kubica will command the machinery driven by Kimi Raikkonen. After a disappointing showing during last week’s free practice session where he finished with the 18th best lap time, Kubica will be hoping to do much better this time around.

Robert Kubica is eager to hit the track with Alfa Romeo in FP1

Speaking to Alfa Romeo’s official website, Kubica said, “Driving one of these cars is always an incredible feeling and therefore I can’t wait for Friday. Emotions aside, we cannot forget how crucial car development is, especially in the compressed 2020 season.”

Furthermore, the Polish driver spoke about his role in the team. He said, “This team needs data and feedback, and providing as much valuable information is what I am here for.

“We had a productive weekend last time out and my aim is to help the team make another step forward here in Hungary.”

Even Alfa Romeo’s Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur, is looking forward to working with Kubica again this week. Vasseur said, “Robert is one of the biggest assets the team has on its side. He did a thoroughly fine job in Austria last week and I am happy to have him in the car once more.

“The data he provided our engineers have already proven valuable. But there is a lot of work still to be done and having three great drivers to receive information from is a great advantage.”
