A sense of uncertainty glooms over Sebastian Vettel and his future in F1, beyond the current season. It’s been nearly two months since Ferrari confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. will be replacing the German in 2021.

Since then, the 4-time world champion has revealed that the decision to part ways was not mutual. In fact, he maintains that he was shocked by the sheer suddenness of the decision.

However, the fact of the matter remains that Vettel is technically staring at unemployment beyond the 2020 season. Nevertheless, he is ready for whatever might come his way, whether that means a new team or potential retirement, the German is keeping himself open to all possibilities.

As per a report by the Independent Vettel told Austrian broadcaster, ServusTV, that he feels it’s unlikely for him to be at Mercedes next year. He said, “I think that (Mercedes), as it is currently driving, is very happy and is doing very well.

“The last few years prove that right. I can understand that they want to stick with it. No decision has been made in this respect yet.

Furthermore, Vettel voiced his thoughts on retirement. He said, “I think if you make the decision to close the door, you shouldn’t make it in such a way that you have the hope to open it again.

“Unless it is clear from the outset. I believe that you must be ready for yourself to be ready to keep the door closed. In other words: if it does not open, for whatever reason, one should not regret the decision.”

However, he also said, “Honestly, I haven’t made a decision yet, and I don’t know yet for myself either. The financial aspect is not at all in the foreground. I am still very ambitious, motorsport is my life.

“With the right job and the right place, I would still feel very much at home in an F1 car.”

Nevertheless, for now, Vettel would be fully focused on the 2020 season with Ferrari. Coming off a really poor race, where he finished 10th, Vettel will be hoping to redeem himself in the coming week, and what better way to do so than on the same track.
