“Still Going to Be In Love”: Max Verstappen & Sergio Perez Make Bold Claim in the Face of Potential F1 Championship Battle

The Monaco GP was a chaotic drama throughout the two hours, but it eventually ended in favor of Red Bull. Sergio Perez won the race in the principality, while teammate and reigning world champion Max Verstappen finished third.

Checo was phenomenal throughout the race weekend in the principality. He outperformed his world champion teammate in the practice sessions and qualified higher than Verstappen. Also, the Mexican is currently third on the driver’s standings and can be a challenger for the 2022 championship leader.

Will Checo’s Monaco win affect the relationship with Max Verstappen?

Sergio Perez has been outstanding in the last seven races and is even eligible to fight for the championship. After the Monaco GP, Perez is only 15 points away from Verstappen and 6 points from the second candidate, Charles Leclerc.

There are a lot of rumors that Checo fighting for wins and championships can affect the relationship with Verstappen. However, the Dutchman rejects such claims and says, “I don’t think so. In terms of that, the relationship will change. You know we have a good [relationship].”

Then Checo asks from the side, “We are still gonna be in love, right?” To which Verstappen replies, “Yeah, absolutely. Why would that change?” Finally, both the drivers look at each other and laugh.

Will Sergio Perez stay at Red Bull?

After the great Monaco victory, Perez was going for the podium along with team principal Christian Horner, who was happy with the double podium for his team. But in the moment of joy, Checo let a secret out.

Perez is in the last season of his two-year-long contract. So, the 32-year-old would be out of a contract after the 2022 season. Sergio wants to continue with the Austrian F1 team, but they have said nothing about renewing Checo’s contract. However, it seems that won’t be the case any longer.

On the way to the Monaco podium, Checo had a fun conversation with Horner. And he jokingly told his Red Bull boss, “I probably signed too early.” This might hint at the Mexican signing a new contract with Red Bull which isn’t public yet.

For now, let’s wait for the official statement from the Austrians on Checo’s contract and look forward to the upcoming Azerbaijan GP.
