Ever since his debut in 2007, Lewis Hamilton has smashed almost every F1 record out there. The Mercedes man has the most win, the most points, most podium finishes, and the most poles in the sport’s history.
However, some records and achievements mean more than others, so let’s look at one from the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix. Hamilton’s 93rd pole position for the 2020 Belgian GP differed from most, as the Mercedes man dedicated his pole position to a friend. The friend being Marvel’s Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman tragically passed away a day before the Belgian Grand Prix. After securing the pole position, the Mercedes man said on his team radio, “That one was for Chadwick, Chadwick Boseman, man. Rest in peace.”
Hamilton elaborated on his feelings after the qualifying session as well. He said, “It’s a really important pole for me because you know I woke up to like the saddest news of Chadwick passing away.”
“And it’s been such a heavy year I think for all of us and that news just really really broke me.”
“So it was really not easy to get back and focus coming in today with that kind of hanging on my heart.”
“But I was like I’ve got to go out there and drive to perfection because you know what he’s done for our people and for what he’s done for you know this superhero shows all these young kids that it’s possible. He was such a shining light so, Wakanda Forever!”

Even though Boseman was surrounded by his loved ones during his final hours, his demise sent shock waves around the world.
