The first-ever qualifying day for Ferrari in the 2020 season, didn’t quite go to plan. In fact, it was a massive disappointment. Fans were all well aware of the team’s troubles ahead of the season opener. But no one could have predicted that the Scuderia’s woes would be this bad.

Charles Leclerc narrowly escaped Q2 as he finished in 10th place, but put in an improved performance to seal a 7th place spot on the starting grid. However, the Monegasque couldn’t hide his disappointment and astonishment, and let it be known to the team.

Leclerc started the second qualifying session after finishing the first one in 9th place. The Monegasque would have been hoping for an improvement in Q2. Unfortunately for him and the Maranello-based outfit, the improvement never came. In fact, he finished Q2 by he one place instead.

Understandably, he wasn’t happy. Moreover, it seemed like he couldn’t believe that he finished so low. He was heard on the team radio and sounded to be in utter disbelief. When he was informed by his team that he finished in 10th place, Leclerc only said two words, “That’s crazy!” Thereafter, he was instructed to head back to the pits.

However, if you thought Leclerc’s performance was poor, wait till you hear how his teammate, Sebastian Vettel fared. It looks as though this season will be a long and arduous one for the Maranello-based outfit. Furthermore, early indications suggest that Ferrari will be closer to the chasing midfield pack than they will be to the frontrunners. However, they’ll be hoping to better their performances tomorrow. Ferrari would ideally be aiming for a 5th and 6th finish for both the drivers, come race day. However, a strong midfield, with the likes of McLaren, Racing Point, and Renault will be expected to stand in their way.
