Since the start of this season, Sebastian Vettel has been swimming in deep waters. Poor performances and uncompetitive Ferrari machinery, coupled with the fact that he was dropped for Carlos Sainz, didn’t do him or his confidence much good. When it seemed that retirement was the only option left with him, Aston Martin Racing swung in and saved the day.

Contrary to his usual smiling and chirpy nature, his issues with Ferrari became more and more evident over the weeks. The car didn’t suit him, there was no confidence given to him by the team and both parties were indulging in subtle verbal arguments.

In that very context, Zeit.de asked him if he ever had to play ‘games’ in order to survive in F1.

” No, it is a free decision, this behavior is very individual. Wherever the sausage is involved, some people choose to do things that are not always right or fair. But I don’t care because: I’m not like that. Maybe I would have done better with it here and there, but the bottom line is that I don’t mind suffering from the consequences.

“You can actually get along with me. I am not a fan of any games, of mood-making in the background. I don’t believe in luring someone off the wrong track,” remarked the four-time world champion.

With Sebastian Vettel back on the podium, frowns took over the faces of many of his haters. Several pundits had already suggested that it was game over for the sensation. Yet, he did not pay heed to the hate and kept on pushing.

Since his debut in F1, Vettel progressed with hard work and determination. He never went for loopholes or shortcuts. For him to be indulging in ‘games’ is a place he would hate. He further went onto say he is comfortable accepting the consequences of his actions than derailing someone.
