In the wake of his maiden F1 win, many wanted Pierre Gasly back at Red Bull to partner Max Verstappen. Moreover, the incumbent Alex Albon (who replaced Gasly) hasn’t managed to make the spot his own. However, amidst calls for Gasly’s recall, Horner said that the team is still very much invested in Albon.

Horner said, “I think as far as Red Bull Racing’s seats are confirmed (concerned), we’re focused on Alex Albon. We want to try and give him the best opportunity to retain his seat.

“It wouldn’t make sense to switch the drivers back. AlphaTauri is now a sister team rather than a junior team. Franz (Tost) is happy I believe with Pierre.”

However, Horner’s next statement would surely have piqued Pierre’s interest. “The final decision will be made later in the year. But there is no push from our side to reverse the situation.”

So there is still a glimmer of hope for Gasly. His performances have definitely warranted a move back to Red Bull and Gasly himself has said that he is ready to make the switch if the opportunity presents itself. However, what’s more interesting is the backing that Albon continues to receive.

“Strong Results Should Be Rewarded” – Pierre Gasly on Returning to Red Bull Amidst Maiden F1 Win

Sure, we are only 8 races into the season. But bear in mind that Pierre was axed midway through 2019 and there never appeared to be the same amount of faith put in Pierre as what is being put in Albon.

Not that Pierre is dwelling on the past. After all, both his win and his other podium finish were achieved in the cockpit of the AlphaTauri (previously Toro Rosso). So he wouldn’t really mind staying on with AlphaTauri.

He said, “Pierre has done a fantastic job. Since taking the step back into what was Toro Rosso, he’s found his confidence, he’s driving incredibly well. AlphaTauri are doing a great job with him. It’s good to see that’s working out for him.”
